As we slowly make our way out of the pandemic we celebrate and make space for the creators that gave us comfort during the many days we were sequestered in our homes – the artists and storytellers. Artists are often the first to look outside the box, beyond what is expected, turning things inside-out and upside-down. This simple act of inspiration is the basis of all innovation.

In honour of these creative imaginations, Femme Folks Fest 2022 concentrates on artist creation, collaboration and things that spark delight. Come share in our artists’ offerings as we make our way out of Winter’s dark and into the new Spring. Our programming for 2022 is Hybrid – both virtual and for the first time in 2-years live-in person!

Featured for 2022 are 10 Femme Folks Fest Artists in Residence and 3 Visiting PlaySmelter Artists in Residence from Northern ON. All 13 artists will be incubating new works of art during Femme Folks Fest. We are Super thrilled to welcome Siminovitch-nominated Lightning Designer Michelle Ramsay in conversation with Women’s Room playwright Anne Doelman March 9 7PM/EST.

Extra special for 2022 is our partnership with the COVERT Collective.  On special evenings a parade of Femme created Visual Art Projections will light Uptown Waterloo. Weekends will feature Femme Folks Fests’ first Food Truck Rodeo and live POP-UP performances.

And there’s more! Works in incubation from Dust and Soul Dance, Lightning Banjo Productions, Watercourse Theatre and Virtu Arts. Workshops in Indigenous Storytelling and Textile Arts and presentations in Circus, Culinary and Performance Art. All created by Regional Femme Artists. All free. All delightful. ‘Cause we need a little Spring.
