About the Festival

Welcome to Femme Folks Fest 2021!  A festival dedicated to and in celebration of Women identified or presenting with Productions, Panels, Pop-Ups, Professional Development and more. Celebrated in March worldwide, International Women’s month is a focal point for the championing of women’s rights and gender equality. At present there is no consistent large-scale programming dedicated to Women in Waterloo Region to coincide with International Women’s Month.

Until now.

Femme Folks Fest (FFF) creates space for community to come together and watch performances, engage in conversation, and celebrate the incredible work of femme-identifying artists. The heart of Femme Folks Fest 2021 will be a virtual space built in Gather, and all FFF programming will take place virtually using both Gather and Zoom.

A Femme Folks Fest Pass is available for a Pay-What-You-Will Donation. The FFF Pass gets you access to events and activities including play readings, artist talks, studio tours with our Artists in Residence, after-parties, and plenty of surprises. Please note that free tickets to The Vintage Project need to be reserved separately here.

During the Festival, FFF Pass holders will receive a daily email — the FFF Heart Beat — containing event descriptions and links needed to attend. Femme Folks Fest’s line-up is meant to be experienced in community, with artists and other audience members, and events will occur at a set showtime.

To fully experience Femme Folks Fest 2021 you will need access to a computer (laptop/desktop) that has a camera and microphone. Join us on Gather and engage socially with artists and other audience members throughout the Festival.

FFF Pass holders will be invited to explore Gather pre-Festival at our Run Around and Systems Check!

Gather is a web-browser based virtual platform that combines video-calling with a 2D map that you explore as an Avatar, allowing you to move fluidly, with space to start conversations with those around you. You will be invited to participate in moments of interaction with artists and other audience members throughout Femme Folks Fest. Gather requires a computer (laptop or desktop) and a Chrome or Firefox browser. We recommend wearing headphones.  Please note that Gather is not yet fully supported in mobile (phone/tablet).

For more information please visit How to Gather @ FFF or consult Gather’s Welcome Guide

Zoom can be accessed on a computer (laptop or desktop), iPad, tablet or smartphone. You can also call in to a session on your phone for an audio-only experience. We recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device. Femme Folks Fest is produced by Pat the Dog Theatre Creation. Founded in 2006, Pat the Dog provides an essential home for the creation of extraordinary new works of Canadian theatre. The company is led by Artistic Director Lisa O’Connell.

Pat the Dog Theatre Creation acknowledges that we are located on the Haldimand Tract, land promised to Six Nations, which included six miles on each side of the Grand River. We are on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (Neutral Confederacy), Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples.

As artists we are intensely curious about this conversation, it’s potential and what it bodes for how we interact as humans in the future, both positive and negative. What are your thoughts?
