Social Media Takeovers
KW Microgrant Artists
At the end of 2020, Pat the Dog awarded 35 micro-grants to artists living and working in Waterloo Region. Of these, 24 were to women presenting or women identifying artists. Throughout the festival we will be platforming these creators and their work: We have invited them to take-over our Instagram account for a day and share their practice with us. Tune in on Instagram @patthedogpdc to see the breadth and number of incredible women creating art in our region! Don’t have Instagram? We will also be posting the creators’ content on Facebook and within our Festival Heart on Gather.
Artists include Lindsay Bellaire, Julie Dring, Tara Butler, Seemab Zahra, Lauren Prousky, Christa Wilson, Jesika Joy, Brubey Hu, Kelsey Dawson, Chia Yin Wu, Sarah Kernohan, and Barbara Hobot.
The Pledge Project
On the evenings of March 13th and 14th Idil Djafer and playwrights from the PLEDGE Project will be taking over our Instagram.
PLEDGE is an acronym for a “Production Listing to Enhance Diversity and Gender Equity,” and it consists of a searchable database of more than four hundred large-cast plays (with six or more characters) by Canadian women. Pledge was created in response to the fact that only 18% of the mainstage plays produced by theatre training programs in Canada are written by women (Hanson and Elser, 2016). Targeting post-secondary schools, the Pledge database offers a valuable tool that can be searched and filtered according to a number of factors, such as cast size, play length, theme, and identity categories including gender, racialization, ability, and sexuality. You can visit the Pledge website to pursue this resource: http://www.pledgeproject.ca/
The PLEDGE Project is supported by the Equity and Diversity in the Arts Initiative in the Department of Arts, Culture & Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and by Playwrights Guild of Canada.
