Movement Betwixt Worlds: Movement Based Creation

Led by Tara Butler

7pm-9pm March 9

Femme Folks Fest is delighted to premiere a new Movement Based Creation Unit during this years Fest! Movement Betwixt Worlds is a 6-week creation unit where each participant will create their own unique, movement based theatre piece facilitated and by Tara Butler.

Each week we will start with a short warm up getting the joints and muscles moving. The warm up will reconnect us with our bodies and serve to ground our energy. This will also calm our minds and wake up our creative instincts. I will lead a movement improvisation using specific instructions to get the body moving naturally.

Each week I will assign different tasks to develop and produce movement phrases. Participants will be encouraged to follow their own personal instincts and understand that all movement is dance. We will discover together how events, feelings, words, and experiences can be expressed through movement. We will combine some of our solo material to create unison sections as well as potentially breaking into duets, solos and trios. At the end of each session we will share with each other what we have created.

Participant Requirements:

  • Device to access Zoom that has a microphone and camera (there will be some on-camera sharing during the workshop)
