The Registry Theatre, in association with Femme Folk Fest and Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, present a lighting workshop for and by women (identifying or presenting). Men represent nearly 70% of Lighting Designers in Canadian theatre; entering the field as a feminine person can be intimidating. This workshop will provide a safe space for all feminine-identified people to learn the basics of Theatrical Lighting Design.

This basic level workshop will cover hanging, powering, and focusing lights, programming them into a lighting board, and designing a lighting plot. Registrants will be invited to share their experience and what they wish to learn so that instructors can adjust workshop content accordingly.

Laura Johnson is a lighting designer, technician and stagehand. She graduated from York University in theatre production, and works predominantly in the Kitchener-Waterloo / Toronto regions. Over the years she has worked with companies such as Wyrd Productions, Green Light Arts, Lost & Found Theatre, MT Space and Drayton Entertainment. Laura is a member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 357 and currently works at the Stratford Festival as an electrician at the Studio Theatre.

 

Nadia Ursacki is a KW-based Lighting Designer and Stage Manager. Lighting design credits include “Titanic” and “Spring Awakening” with KWMP; “Heathers” and “In the Heights” with The Singer’s Theatre; “The Paper Bag Princess” with KWLT. Select Stage Manager credits: “Outside Mullingar” and “Charles Dickens Writes a Christmas Carol” with Lost&Found Theatre; “The Three Musketeers” and “Captain Hook’s Revenge” with KWLT.
